Beverley Westwood is an open space on the edge of Beverley, East Yorkshire. Cattle and sheep roam freely grazing on the pastures. The old windmill tower to the left of the picture is known locally as Black Mill but actually its real name was Far Mill or Baitson’s Mill after Gilbert Baitson rebuilt it in 1803. A windmill has stood on this site since the 1650’s. The grandstands of Beverley Racecourse can by seen in the distance to the right of the landscape. Races are run regularly on the clockwise course.
