The Thermopylae was designed by Bernard Waymouth and built at Walter Hood’s yard in Aberdeen and launched in 1868. A bigger than normal depth of keel gave her an added quality when sailing to windward, the sail area was huge but not excessive. Painted green in the colours of the Aberdeen White Star Line the ship immediately made records from the first voyage to Melbourne, 63 days, to her last days in the Australian wool trade.
This fine art limited edition has a size of 100 and is signed by David Bell. The picture is supplied cellophane wrapped, presented in a generously sized double-mount.
